Brewing Success: Fusion Energy Café Partnership
Minutes from campus, exciting new work placement opportunities are brewing thanks to a new partnership with Fusion Energy Café.
Four students across digital media and supported internship courses are already gaining valuable experience, ranging from developing digital projects to assisting with operational tasks.
Located next door to The Bridge Skills Hub, this welcoming spot invites students and locals alike with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for collaboration or downtime. Owned and managed by Diana, who also runs Café Neo, the space is rapidly becoming a vibrant hub for work placements, community events, and affordable deals.
Speaking about her recent venture, Diana said:
“Creating a welcoming space isn’t just about great food and coffee – it’s about building confidence, unlocking potential, and giving everyone a chance to shine. When students step through our doors, they’re stepping into opportunities to grow, learn, and connect with their community.
That’s the true energy we want to share, and my focus on inclusion extends to my team, with staff supported based on their individual needs and strengths.”
While wearing their college lanyard, students can enjoy a 10% discount off food and drink. Alongside this discount, the cafe also offers a morning meal deal, which includes a bacon or sausage sandwich plus a coffee before 10am for just £3.
Three weeks into his placement, supported internship student Charlie shared:
“I enjoy helping out with a variety of tasks like cleaning, serving drinks, and making smoothies. I like taking initiative and getting on with whatever needs doing, whether it’s washing up or other little jobs – it feels great to contribute and be part of the team!”
Beyond offering coffee, Fusion Energy Café is a key collaboration between the UKAEA project in West Burton and Bassetlaw District Council. Driven by sustainability and inclusive engagement, this partnership nurtures fusion talent alongside energy awareness in the region. Even the interior design mirrors a tokamak fusion concept, visually introducing clean energy’s future in a comfortable setting.
Recent news reveals a 20 year partnership between UKAEA and EMCCA to develop fusion energy skills for the West Burton plant. Apprenticeships and training across the East Midlands, South Yorkshire, and Greater Lincolnshire will prepare thousands for new roles. With 6,500 jobs expected and a focus on advanced qualifications, this initiative aims to fuel regional growth and innovation.
